In my point of view, Rifugio Azzoni it’s one of the most interesting trekking and hiking trails in Lombardy Area.
1 – How I can reach Piani D’Erna location?
First of all, you need to set your google maps on “Piani D’erna”. If you won’t be able to start the google maps navigator with this location don’t worry: set up on near location such as “Deviscio”, afterwards go on SS36 Valassina towards Lecco or Deviscio and when you will be very close to Piani D’Erna you will find a road sign with “Piani d’Erna”.
You will be arrived when you find the big parking for the funicular railway.
2 – Now You are in Piani D’Erna
Great! You have just reached with your car 290 M of altitude.
Now you have two options.
You can follow my suggestions (plan A) OR if you are tired and you want start a less challenging path, go through “Rifugio Stoppani” (plan B), by following the signs.
If you don’t find them, don’t be shy, ask to the locals.
3 – Plan B (easy path): Rifugio Stoppani 890 M
Rifugio Stoppani is around 1 hour by walk.
In rifugio Stoppani you can have a nice lunch with your friends with typical mountain food of Lombardy Area.
I suggest “Polenta” (it’s a sort of mashed corn) with Italian cheese (Formaggio) and Stinco (shin meat), but it’s up to you! I suggested also a shot of Italian moonshine, called “Grappa”: there are plenty of varieties.
4- Plan A (medium path): Rifugio Azzoni Mt. 1860
If you want to follow my suggestions, you need to buy a ticket for the funicular railway station.
The adventure experience starts now: when you will be on the cabin, you have already the opportunity to have a look around you about the Lombardy mountains of Lecco Area.
After few minutes you will reach your destinations. Ypu will reach the old sky stations of Piani D'Erna.
We suggest to go up to Azzoni with a longer path (1,5 hours by walk), but less difficult.
Now follow the path n. 5 that will reconnect with path n. 1.
When you will arrive at Azzoni you can have a very beautiful overview of different Lombardy mountains and lakes around you.
Very interesting having lunch and in the meanwhile have a quick look out of the window of Rifugio Azzoni annd see an astonishing wildlife landscape.
In Rifugio Azzoni you can stay at night, but you need to book a bed at least the day before.
